A Single Man (2009), directed by Tom Ford. (Spoiler alert)
When Charlotte (Julianne Moore), a longtime friend of George (Colin Firth), tried to downplay the significance of his relationship with his late partner Jim (Matthew Goode), partly in an attempt to console him, George burst out in anger and tears.
The night George had planned to kill himself, he drops by the nearby pub where he had met Jim for the first time. His plan gets off when the night weirdly falls into a surprise come-across with Kenny (Hoult, Nicholas), yet not by chance. Kenny felt something unusual and downcast from George at College that he's traveled to look for George at his neighborhood. The gentle excitement, just as the night Jim and George had fallen in love instantly (very, beautiful), visits George again. He finds solace in Kenny's presence home, something he believed lost for good with Jim. After disassembling the gun he had prepared that morning, he tries to fall asleep. In that very moment, his heart suddenly stops, taking his life. But he didn’t choose to end it—his life was taken from him as soon as he found peace.
Was it a more dignified end?
